I’m at 1% Battery (and That’s Okay)

December 23, 20253 min read

It’s been a looooong minute.

I’ve been quiet on social for a while, and rather than make up a fancy excuse about "digital detoxing" or "strategic pivoting", I’ll just give it to you straight: Life has been "lifing”.

You know those seasons where the collective weight of everything feels too much? Yeah, I’ve been in an extended version. I didn't just lose steam, I think my internal battery hit 1% and I’ve spent the past few months unable to find the charger.

Here’s the interesting part: I didn't stop loving being a psychotherapist. If I won the lottery today, I’d still show up tomorrow, holding space for individuals and couples, consulting, accepting speaking gigs and hopping on podcasts (I flew to Seattle for a fun one recently, I'll let you know when it gets published). Connecting with people is where my battery actually charges. My work gives me life and I'm grateful to God for the opportunity to get paid to do it.

But the business side of things in today’s world? The marketing, organizing, self-promotion, the "content creation," the constant shouting into the digital void just to prove you still exist? Not so much. A girl is tired!

The energy I usually have for planning workshops and putting programs together has faded, and despite my best efforts to find it (I checked under my bed and the fridge even), it’s just not there. (Message me if you find it, maybe I forgot it with you??)

The Low-Bandwidth Version of Me

In a world that demands we reveal a “new and improved” version every six months, what do we do when we’re operating on 1% battery and an almost empty tank? Are we still allowed to show up? Or should we hide?

I thought I had to wait until I had a "Big Inspiring Lesson" or a "Major Announcement" to post. But I’ve realized the most helpful thing I can share with you isn't a breakthrough. It’s just... me. This current, low-bandwidth version of myself who is:

  • Still deeply enjoying sessions with my clients, premarital being my current fave (maybe because I typically meet couples in crisis, meeting people doing the prep work to reduce the future likelihood? I so much love it!).

  • Getting my own professional support (because therapists need therapists, too).

  • Finding joy in the chaos, even if that joy is spending time with my family and friends, or enjoying a really good book in my room by myself, or dressing up for an owambe (you know me, I’ll always have the bandwidth for that!)

No Resolutions, Just Rhythm

I’m heading into 2026 with exactly zero grand resolutions, leaning into a rhythm that is actually sustainable. That means giving myself permission to slow down, or even quit things, without personally interpreting it as failure. I'm conserving energy and discretionarily assigning it.

If you’ve spent the last few months just trying to keep your head above water, please know you're not alone. Life isn’t always a sprint. Sometimes it’s a slow crawl. Other times it’s just floating on your back until you’re ready to swim again.

If you're fully charged and running full steam ahead, I love it for you!! Thank you for carrying more than your fair share. (Maybe let me plug in, if we run into each other?)

There’s more than one way to do this life thing. I’m finding mine. I hope you find yours, too.

Write me back, I'd love to hear.

Stay kind to yourself,

Gbemi
